Welcome to Warriwillah Cottages


Herb Jefferson is a mad keen surfer and adventurer and always has been. Life's a bit quieter now but this is the story of how Herbie came to Byron Bay back in the late 60's and fell in love with a quiet little place called Broken Head.

"I left Newcastle with a friend in 1968 in search of the warmer weather and warmer water. Surfing was the main thing on our agenda of course the perfect wave was foremost on our minds. We spent a few months road tripping up and down the coast and Byron Bay- just a lazy little village back then was where I ended up. Not much to it back then really; the Ryan sisters had an unforgettable café in the middle of town and the top pub which is now the iconic Byron Bay Hotel was little more than a tin shed called The Surfside. "
